Tax revenue continued to post strong growth through the end of August 2026. Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto said cumulative tax revenue from January to August 2026 grew 24.1% from the same period last year.
On a monthly basis, tax revenue as of August 31, 2026 also increased 27% from the previous month.
“As of August 31, the preliminary year-on-year (yoy) figure was 27%. On a cumulative basis, it grew 24.1% yoy from January to August,” Bimo said during a briefing at the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday (September 1, 2026).
With tax revenue in January-August 2025 recorded at Rp 1,135.4 trillion, the 24.1% growth mathematically puts tax revenue for the same period this year at around Rp 1,409.1 trillion.
This represents an increase of approximately Rp 273.7 trillion compared with the same period last year.
However, the growth rate was slightly lower than the figure recorded in the first half of 2026. Through June 2026, tax revenue grew 24.6% yoy to Rp 1,035.7 trillion.
Bimo nonetheless viewed the revenue performance as positive and expressed optimism that the 2026 tax revenue target could be achieved. Under the 2026 State Budget (APBN), the government set a tax revenue target of Rp 2,357.7 trillion, representing growth of around 23% from the previous year.
“We remain cautious. It is fairly conservative at 23.01%,” Bimo said.
If the estimated tax revenue of Rp 1,409.1 trillion through August is compared with the 2026 State Budget target, realization has reached approximately 59.8%.
At this level, the government still needs to collect around Rp 948.6 trillion in tax revenue over the remaining four months to meet the annual target of Rp 2,357.7 trillion.
Meanwhile, the government has also set a state revenue target for 2027. Under the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN), state revenue is targeted at Rp 3,426 trillion, up 6.8% from the 2026 outlook, equivalent to 12.23% of gross domestic product (GDP).
The target comprises tax revenue of Rp 2,908 trillion, non-tax state revenue (PNBP) of Rp 517.4 trillion, and grants of Rp 0.7 trillion.
Within tax revenue, tax receipts are targeted at Rp 2,591.4 trillion. Meanwhile, customs and excise revenue is projected to reach Rp 316.6 trillion.
The government has also set a tax-to-GDP ratio target of 10.38% for 2027. The target will be supported by tax reforms and stronger economic activity.
