Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has called on the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) to expedite tax refunds for taxpayers, particularly micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and labor-intensive companies that need cash flow support.

Suahasil said tax refunds are taxpayers’ rights and should therefore be processed as quickly as possible. The measure is expected to help businesses maintain sufficient funds to finance their operations.

“I have instructed the Director General of Taxes to ensure that refunds, as a taxpayer right, are processed as quickly as possible for industries that need cash flow support, particularly labor-intensive industries and MSMEs,” Suahasil said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (Oct. 9, 2026).

He explained that the government recognizes businesses’ need to maintain adequate cash flow. Accordingly, the government is easing tax refund procedures to accelerate the disbursement of funds.

Suahasil added that the DGT had begun implementing the relaxation.

“We also understand the need to ease tax refund procedures, and our colleagues at the DGT have begun implementing these measures,” he said.

Data through September 2026 showed that tax refunds totaled IDR 198.71 trillion, up IDR 6.89 trillion from IDR 191.82 trillion in August 2026. On a monthly basis, tax refunds increased by approximately 3.59%.

However, the increase was lower than that recorded during the same period in 2025. Tax refunds stood at IDR 304.29 trillion in August 2025 before rising to IDR 323.92 trillion in September 2025.

Tax refunds during that period increased by IDR 19.63 trillion, representing growth of approximately 6.45% from the previous month.
