Tax News

Tax matters are not simply related to paying taxes to the state. In practice, they involve various services, consultations, and dispute resolution mechanisms carried out by officers with different duties and expertise.

Within the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Ministry of Finance, each profession has its own responsibilities to support tax administration, improve taxpayers' compliance, and ensure that the implementation of tax rights and obligations proceeds according to regulations.

Understanding each officer's function can help the public identify the appropriate personnel to approach when needing information, assistance, or resolution of tax issues.

Here are eight professions within the DGT, along with their duties and roles in tax services.

1. Integrated Service Counter (TPT) Officers

TPT officers serve various tax administration needs, ranging from Taxpayer Identification Number (nomor pokok wajib pajak/NPWP) registration and document receipt to specific service requests. Taxpayers can visit this counter to obtain information regarding administrative procedures and requirements.

2. Tax Extension Officers

Tax extension officers are responsible for providing guidance on tax regulations and procedures for fulfilling tax obligations. These officers can help the public understand the latest provisions, the use of Coretax DGT, and act as resource persons in tax socialization activities.

3. Account Representatives (AR)

ARs carry out the compliance supervision function while providing tax consultation to taxpayers. If there is data requiring clarification, including through a request letter for explanation of data and/or information (SP2DK), taxpayers can communicate with the relevant AR.

4. Tax Auditors

Tax auditors are responsible for assessing taxpayer compliance through audits based on applicable regulations. Audits can also be conducted during the review of applications for refunds of tax overpayments, according to established mechanisms.

5. Objection Reviewers

Objection reviewers examine and analyze objection requests submitted by taxpayers regarding tax assessments. This process considers documents, arguments, and legal provisions to produce decisions in accordance with tax regulations. Therefore, taxpayers wishing to file an objection need to understand the formal requirements, deadlines, and supporting documents that must be prepared so that their request can be processed according to the provisions.

6. State Tax Bailiffs (Juru Sita Pajak Negara/JSPN)

JSPN carry out active tax collection against taxpayers who have tax arrears in accordance with legal procedures. Collection actions are conducted through stages regulated by prevailing laws.

7. Tax Investigators

Civil servant investigators (penyidik pegawai negeri sipil/PPNS) in the field of taxation handle investigations into alleged tax criminal offenses according to their authority. The handling may include the alleged use of tax invoices not based on actual transactions or other violations meeting criminal elements.

8. Tax Appraisers

Tax appraisers have the expertise to assess objects or assets for tax purposes. Their roles include supporting the appraisal of land and building tax (PBB) objects in specific sectors according to the DGT's authority.

Choosing the Right Service

The variety of professions within the DGT shows that tax matters are handled through a complementary division of responsibilities. For taxpayers, understanding these officers' roles can make it easier to access the required services.

Questions regarding administrative procedures can be directed to TPT officers, while educational needs can be directed to tax extension officers. For matters of supervision, auditing, objections, collection, or appraisal, taxpayers can follow mechanisms appropriate to the authority of the relevant officers.

By understanding these service channels, it is hoped that the public can fulfill their tax obligations more orderly while utilizing their rights according to regulations. Appropriate services, increased compliance, and rule-based law enforcement are part of the effort to build a fair tax system and support state revenue.
